The New Blogger app for iOS is no Big deal for Mobile Blogging

In the past few years there’s been a rapid grow in the use of mobile phones to do more. Blogging on mobile phones is no longer a new idea but simply a technology that needs to be improved on. I’ve personally had the experience of blogging from mobile phone during my early blogging career, thanks to Google owned Blogger.com blog.

Mobile BloggingTo take things a bit further, On September 8, 2011, Google announced the new Blogger app for iOS.

As Google describes it in a post on Google Mobile blog,

“With the Blogger app, you can write a new blog post and publish it immediately or save it as a draft right from your iOS device. You can also open a blog post you’ve been working on from your computer and continue editing it while you’re on-the-go. Your blog posts are automatically synced across devices, so you’ll always have access to the latest version.”

I don’t think this to be a big deal, as I’ve always been doing all of these from a Smartphone (Nokia 3230). Blogger made Mobile blogging easy by providing a mobile friendly dashboard. You can log in to your blogger dashboard from your mobile browser to create and publish your blog post. The only news to it is that iOS users now have an app to play with their blogger blogs. I don’t have an iOS, so can’t tell the level of efficiency this app provides.

Further in the announcement;

“Pictures are worth a thousand words, and the Blogger app makes it easy to add photos either by choosing from the gallery or taking a new photo right within the app. You can also add labels and location to provide more details about the post”.

The ease to take and add photos to your blog right within the app is the interesting feature in my opinion. As for adding Labels, you can always do that from your regular Smartphone. You can add and remove Gadgets but can’t drag and drop to rearrange your layout.

Features that will make the App a lot more useful will be the;

  • Ease to edit your template (add and save HTML codes)
  • Ability to drag and drop gadgets to desired position

Like I already said, I don’t use an iOS phone, and so not sure if it includes these features. Of course it wouldn’t hurt to have Blogger Apps compatible for a wider range of mobile phones.

You can download the Blogger app for iOS versions 3.2 and above in the App Store. Although the user interface is only available in English at this time, the app supports blog posts written in all languages. If you’re using an Android-powered device, you can download the Blogger app for Android from the Android Market.
